Introduction to Using Advanced Design System (ADS)

This lab is an introduction to Keysight 'Advaced Design System' (ADS) simulation software.  While this lab has no marks, it is advisable that you go through the lab.  You will need to know how to use the ADS software to do your projects for this course.

i) For Section 4 'Microstrip Parameters' use these values, make a table and then plot:




ii) Fill the statements in the table:


iii) Do the microstrip exercises using FR4 Specs at home for a better understanding (and grasping) of the theory.  For your projects you will be using FR4 substrates.  The FR4 specs are:

  • dielectric constant Er = 4.2
  • dielectric loss tangent tanD = 0.2
  • substrate thickness = 62 mil
  • copper conductivity = 5.8e7 S/m
  • copper thickness = 1.38 mil
  • copper roughness = 0.005 mil
